That’s a big number for a foldable. Most competitors in this space are still hovering around the 4,500 to 5,000mAh range, so Xiaomi pushing to 6,000mAh is a real statement. Battery life has been one of the most consistent criticisms of foldable phones since the category first launched, and if Xiaomi has actually cracked that problem without turning the phone into a brick, that matters a lot.
The charging side of things is still a little vague from the leak, but both wired and wireless charging are confirmed to be on the table. Xiaomi has been aggressive with charging speeds on its flagship phones, so expect the wired speeds to be competitive. Wireless charging on a foldable is still a feature that not every brand bothers with, so including it here is a nice touch.
Beyond the battery, the Xiaomi 18 Fold is already shaping up to be one of the more spec-heavy foldables of the year. Xiaomi has already confirmed it will run on the new 3nm Xring O3 chip, and it will also be the first device to ship with LPDDR6 RAM. Those are serious credentials. Other leaks point to a 7.6-inch foldable screen, a 200-megapixel primary camera, and HyperOS 4 running on top of Android 17. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor handles biometrics.
The launch is expected in early September in China, so there isn’t long to wait. And Xiaomi isn’t stopping at one device for this event. The company is also set to announce the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, a new tablet that will also run on the Xring O3 chip. Details on the tablet are still thin, but pairing a flagship foldable with a flagship tablet at the same event suggests Xiaomi is going all in on its own silicon.
That chip strategy is the bigger story here, honestly. Xiaomi designing its own processor and putting it at the center of its premium lineup is a direct challenge to Qualcomm’s grip on Android flagships. If the Xring O3 performs the way Xiaomi is suggesting, this won’t just be a win for one phone. It shifts how we should think about Xiaomi as a company going forward.
