According to Android Headlines, Google is testing a floating button inside Gemini Daily Brief labeled ‘Talk through your brief.’ Tap it, and Gemini Live opens up and starts reading your briefing out loud. No prompts, no extra steps. Just tap and listen.
Right now, getting Gemini to read your Daily Brief aloud requires opening Gemini Live and asking it to do the job. That’s not a huge deal, but it’s the kind of friction that makes a feature feel buried. Most people won’t bother if it takes more than two taps. So wrapping this into a visible shortcut directly inside the Daily Brief interface is a smart move. It’s the difference between a feature people actually use and one that exists mostly in demo videos.
The audio side of the experience is reportedly already working. But the UI? Still rough. The screen currently just shows ‘Here’s what’s on your plate today’ while the audio plays, and tapping the button multiple times serves up different intro lines each time, which feels inconsistent. That kind of behavior usually means the team hasn’t locked down the final design yet. So this is a feature in progress, not a finished product.
Still, the direction is interesting. Google has been quietly building out Gemini Daily Brief for a while now. Custom controls have improved, and there are signs the feature could land inside the At a Glance widget on Pixel phones. Add a proper audio shortcut to that list, and Daily Brief starts looking less like an afterthought and more like something Google actually wants people to rely on each morning.
The bigger picture here is that Google is trying to make Gemini feel native to everyday phone use, not just a chatbot you open when you have a question. Audio briefings fit that goal. Hands-free, passive, built into the start of your day. That’s the kind of utility that can actually change how people interact with AI on their phones.
No word yet on a wider rollout date. But this one’s worth watching.
