Samsung isn’t making last year’s foldable owners wait around. Just days after kicking off the One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, Samsung has announced that the same beta program is now rolling out to the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. It’s starting in South Korea first, which is pretty standard Samsung behavior, but it’s a good sign for a wider rollout soon.
This matters more than a typical beta drop. One UI 9 is built on Android 17, and it brings a real mix of practical upgrades and AI additions that actually sound useful rather than just filling a spec sheet. Samsung has a habit of loading software updates with features nobody asked for, but some of what’s in this beta is worth paying attention to.
Here’s what’s included in the One UI 9 beta update:
- A more flexible Quick Panel with better layout controls
- Text Spotlight, an upgraded accessibility tool for highlighting on-screen text
- Improved Samsung DeX capabilities for desktop-style multitasking
- New Bixby home screen widgets
- NFC-based Tap to Share for quick file transfers
- Galaxy AI additions including “Now Nudge,” “My FanCam,” and personalized “Now Brief” routine cards
To get in, you need to open the Samsung Members app on your Z Fold 6 or Z Flip 6, sign in with your Samsung account, and look for the One UI 9 beta enrollment banner on the main screen. Tap it, follow the steps, and then head to Settings, Software update, and hit Check for updates. If enrollment worked, the beta package should show up ready to download.
So why does this matter beyond the obvious? Foldables are still a relatively small slice of the Android market, and Samsung knows it needs to keep those buyers feeling valued. Dropping beta access to the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 quickly after the newer models shows Samsung isn’t abandoning its one-year-old flagships. That’s a smart move, especially as competition from other foldable makers keeps heating up. Buyers need a reason to stay in the Samsung ecosystem, and consistent software support is a big one. This beta won’t be perfect, but it’s a promising start for what One UI 9 could bring to the full Z Fold and Z Flip lineup.
