Motorola apparently looked at last year’s crystal-covered Razr and thought, “Let’s do that again.” And honestly? Fair enough. The original Swarovski collaboration sold well enough to justify a second round, and this time the phone comes dressed in Pantone Meteorite, which is just a fancy way of saying black.
As reported by Engadget, the new limited-edition Razr features 35 hand-positioned Swarovski crystals on the back, plus a 32-facet crystal sitting right on the hinge. The back has a “quilted, leather-inspired texture” that pairs with the dark colorway pretty well, at least in photos. It ships with a clear case designed to protect the crystals without covering them up, which is exactly the kind of thing you want when you’ve just dropped $900 on a bedazzled flip phone.
That price gets you more than just the phone, though. Early buyers get a free pair of Moto Buds 2 Plus earbuds, which have also been given the Swarovski treatment, plus a base Moto Watch thrown in. So it’s a full crystal-studded lifestyle package, if that’s your thing. Everything goes on sale September 10.
Now, is this a gimmick? Absolutely, yes. But it’s a gimmick with a clear audience. Fashion-forward buyers who want a phone that doubles as an accessory have been underserved for years. Motorola spotted that gap and keeps filling it, and this collaboration with Swarovski gives the Razr brand a premium identity that specs alone never could.
Motorola also used the same announcement window to drop the Moto Watch Ultra, a more serious piece of hardware. It has:
- LTE connectivity for standalone use
- Dual-band GPS
- A large OLED display
- NFC for contactless payments
- Wear OS by Google integration
- Around two days of battery life
The Watch Ultra costs $350 and also lands on September 10. It’s a strong complement to the Razr line and signals that Motorola is serious about building out a connected wearables ecosystem, not just selling phones. Whether the Watch Ultra can compete with Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch is another question, but the specs are competitive enough to make it worth considering.
So Motorola is having a moment. Two product drops, a luxury fashion collab, and a proper smartwatch, all in one week. That’s a confident move from a brand that spent years flying under the radar.
