Fitting a big battery inside a foldable phone is genuinely hard. The hinge, the dual screens, the folding mechanism — they all eat up space that would otherwise go to a battery cell. So when Xiaomi says the 18 Fold is getting a 6000mAh pack, that’s worth stopping to appreciate.
As reported by Gizmochina, Xiaomi has officially confirmed the battery specs ahead of the phone’s September 7 launch. The 18 Fold will use a Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery with 20% silicon content and an energy density of up to 920Wh/L. The silicon part matters because silicon anodes can store more energy than traditional graphite, which is how you squeeze a large capacity into a smaller physical footprint. The stacked design helps too, layering cells more efficiently than older winding methods.
So on paper, Xiaomi has a real answer to one of the most common complaints about foldable phones: they tend to have mediocre battery life compared to their slab-style counterparts. Most book-style foldables top out around 4500mAh to 5000mAh. A 6000mAh cell puts the 18 Fold in a completely different league, at least on the spec sheet.
Charging speeds are solid but not class-leading. The phone supports 67W wired charging and 50W wireless. For context, Xiaomi’s own flagship slab phones can hit 90W or higher, so foldable constraints are clearly still a factor. But 67W wired is fast enough for most people, and 50W wireless is genuinely impressive for any foldable.
The battery news is just the latest in a string of hardware confirmations Xiaomi has been dropping before the launch. The 18 Fold will run on Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset, which puts the company in the same conversation as Apple and Samsung when it comes to owning its own silicon. It’s also set to be the first phone to use LPDDR6 memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies, which is a notable milestone for China’s domestic memory industry.
The full picture here is a company swinging hard. Xiaomi is not just shipping another foldable with incremental updates. It’s combining a homegrown chip, next-gen memory, and now a battery that should genuinely outlast the competition. The 18 Fold will launch alongside the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, suggesting Xiaomi wants this to be a full ecosystem moment, not just a single device drop.
