Eight thousand milliamp-hours. That’s a number you’d normally see on a small power bank, not a phone. But Oppo is putting exactly that inside the A7 Pro, a mid-range device aimed squarely at people who are tired of hunting for a charger by 4pm. According to Gizmochina, the phone has a confirmed sale date of September 11 in China, and the full spec sheet is now in the open.
The A7 Pro has a 6.57-inch OLED display running at 1080p with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for 1.07 billion colors. For a phone that’s likely to land under 2,000 Yuan (roughly $300), that’s a solid screen. OLED at this price point still isn’t a given from every brand, so Oppo gets credit for not cutting that corner. The phone weighs around 204 grams and sits at 8.8mm thick, which makes sense given how much battery is crammed inside. It’s not a slim phone. But if the tradeoff is two days of battery life, most people will take that deal.
On the camera side, you get a 50-megapixel rear shooter and an 8-megapixel front camera. Nothing wild there. The rear module is arranged horizontally with an LED flash alongside it, which gives the A7 Pro a look that stands out a little from the usual A series designs. It’s a small thing, but it matters when every mid-range phone starts looking the same.
Charging comes in at 80W wired, which is fast enough to top up that enormous battery in a reasonable amount of time. No wireless charging, but again, at this price, that’s expected.
Pricing hasn’t been officially confirmed, but context makes it pretty clear where this lands. Oppo’s A7 Pro Max, which steps up to a 10,000mAh battery, starts at 2,199 Yuan (around $330). The standard A7 Pro will almost certainly come in below that, putting it in a very competitive spot against phones from Redmi, Realme, and Samsung’s A series.
Why does this matter beyond one phone launch? Because battery life is now a genuine battleground in the mid-range. A few years ago, 5,000mAh was considered generous. Now 8,000mAh is showing up in a sub-$300 device, and that raises the bar for everyone. Consumers are pushing back against thin-at-all-costs design philosophy, and brands are listening. Oppo’s A series has always been about accessible, practical phones for everyday users, and the A7 Pro fits that mission well.
Here’s a quick look at what the A7 Pro brings to the table:
- 6.57-inch 1080p OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, 1.07 billion colors
- 8,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging
- 50MP rear camera, 8MP front camera
- Horizontal rear camera module design
- Weighs 204g, 8.8mm thick
- Goes on sale in China on September 11 at 10:00am
- Expected to be priced under 2,000 Yuan (approx. $300)
So is this the most exciting phone of the year? No. But it doesn’t need to be. The A7 Pro is doing exactly what a good mid-ranger should do: pick a real problem that real people have, and solve it well. If it delivers on that battery promise, Oppo has a winner here.
