Google’s fitness tracker with a display just showed up at the FCC

Google has basically been teasing this thing in its own ads. Back in August, a Pixel fitness tracker with a display kept popping up in Pixel 11 promotional material. Not once. Multiple times. Either Google’s marketing team had a very bad few weeks, or the company was deliberately letting something slip. Given how obvious it was, the second option always seemed more likely.

Now there’s actual hardware evidence. According to Android Headlines, a mysterious Google device has surfaced in an FCC filing, and the details point pretty clearly to a Wear OS-powered fitness tracker with a screen.

The filing lists it as a ‘Wireless Device’ made by Goertek, which is the same manufacturer behind multiple generations of Pixel Buds. The model number is ‘G8BL6’, which fits Google’s typical naming pattern for hardware. So far, so credible. But the detail that really stands out is the e-label setup. The filing shows the label is accessed through Settings, then System, then Regulatory Information. If that sounds familiar, it should. That’s the exact same path you’d take on a Pixel Watch. It’s a strong signal that this thing runs Wear OS.

The ADB, or Android Debug Bridge, was also used during testing, which further points to Wear OS under the hood. And in terms of connectivity, the device has Bluetooth LE and GNSS, meaning built-in GPS. Put that together with the form factor hinted at in those Pixel 11 ads, and you’ve got something that looks a lot like a fitness band with a display.

This matters because Google already has a screenless fitness tracker in the Fitbit Air. A version with a display would fill an obvious gap in the lineup and give people who want more visual feedback without committing to a full smartwatch an actual option. The fitness tracker space has been dominated for years by Fitbit’s older designs and a handful of budget competitors. Google stepping in with a proper Wear OS-powered band could actually shake things up, especially if it’s priced to compete with something like a Fitbit Charge rather than a Galaxy Watch.

The bigger picture here is that Google has been slowly trying to make Wear OS matter again. The Pixel Watch line has improved a lot, but it hasn’t exactly taken over the wearables market. A more affordable, fitness-focused tracker could bring Wear OS to a wider audience who aren’t ready to spend watch money but still want Google’s health tracking and software ecosystem on their wrist.

Here’s what the FCC filing confirms so far:

  • Made by Goertek, the same manufacturer as Pixel Buds
  • Model number ‘G8BL6’ fits Google’s hardware naming conventions
  • E-label accessed through Settings, matching the Pixel Watch setup
  • Bluetooth LE and GNSS (GPS) connectivity
  • ADB used during testing, strongly suggesting Wear OS

No pricing, no official name, and no launch date yet. But with the FCC filing in hand and Pixel 11 ads already giving us a visual preview, a late 2026 announcement feels very realistic. Google would be smart to pair it with whatever hardware event they have planned before the year ends. Whether it actually lands or gets quietly shelved is still anyone’s guess, but the evidence is stacking up fast.
