MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro was barely out the door before two of China’s biggest phone makers jumped on it. As confirmed by Gizmochina, both Vivo and Oppo have officially locked in the new 2nm chip for their next flagship camera phones. And the launches are just one day apart.
What Vivo is doing with the X500 Pro Max
Vivo didn’t just drop a confirmation and move on. The company published a joint poster with MediaTek that gets into the specifics of what they actually built together. The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a dual super-large-core CPU design, and Vivo worked with MediaTek on something called chip-level AP Demura 2.0 correction. The idea is to fix uneven brightness across the display at the chip level, which ties directly into the 2K display already confirmed for the X500 Pro Max. That’s a smarter approach than patching display issues in software after the fact.
The chip also handles AP-level multi-frame motion smear compensation, which is designed to cut down on blur when you’re shooting fast-moving subjects. But the camera story gets more interesting from here. The X500 series gets professional Log video support built straight into the chip, including 4K at 120fps with 10-bit Log output. No external recorder needed. That’s a real spec for a real use case.
Vivo is also pairing the Dimensity 9600 Pro with its own Blueprint imaging chip. Together, the company says this setup can shoot 4K Dolby Vision portrait video, which Vivo is calling an industry first. And there’s XDZ, a new high-magnification video upscaling technology that Vivo says will debut on the X500 Pro series before anyone else gets it. That global-first advantage will be short-lived though. The phone launches September 21.
Oppo’s angle on the Find X10 Pro Max
Oppo is also going with the Dimensity 9600 Pro, but its approach leans harder into software and battery engineering. The Find X10 Pro Max has a new Tide Engine that can shift resources between high-frame-rate gaming and on-device AI tasks depending on what you’re doing. Oppo is also introducing a Falcon Scheduler, which is meant to juggle demanding camera work and heavy performance loads at the same time without dropping the ball on either.
In practice, Oppo says this means the Find X10 Pro Max can record 4K at 60fps for extended periods and support up to eight hours of full-frame-rate gaming in demanding titles. Those are big claims, and we’ll see how they hold up in real testing. But the architecture to back them up at least sounds thought through.
The bigger talking point might actually be the battery. Oppo fitted the Find X10 Pro Max with an 8,000mAh Glacier Battery with an energy density of 867Wh/L, built with the company’s own spherical silicon-carbon technology. Oppo says it’s designed to stay healthy for up to five years, which is a direct response to one of the most common complaints about large-capacity batteries: they degrade fast.
Why this matters and what to expect
Two flagship phones built around the same chip launching a day apart tells you a lot about where the Android premium market is heading. It’s a race to push the Dimensity 9600 Pro to its limits, and both Vivo and Oppo are using very different strategies to do it. Vivo is going deep on imaging hardware. Oppo is betting on smarter resource management and battery longevity.
