iPhone 18 Pro Max hits 52W charging and goes 0 to 100% in 55 minutes

Apple has spent years being embarrassingly slow on charging speeds while Android phones lapped it repeatedly. So when real-world testing shows the iPhone 18 Pro Max hitting a full charge in 55 minutes flat, that’s genuinely worth paying attention to. This isn’t a spec sheet claim. It’s actual hands-on data, and the jump is significant.

Tech channel Xiaobai’s Tech Reviews ran the numbers, spotted by tipster Ice Universe, and as reported by Android Headlines, the iPhone 18 Pro Max goes from completely dead to 100% in 55 minutes. Last year’s iPhone 17 Pro Max needed 81 minutes to do the same thing. That’s 26 minutes back in your day, which adds up fast if you’re someone who charges mid-afternoon instead of overnight.

The speed comes from a peak 52W charging rate, the highest Apple has ever put in an iPhone. And it shows. Hitting 50% in around 15 minutes means a quick lunch break plug-in actually does something meaningful now. For years, iPhone users had to plan their charging around long windows. That’s no longer the case here.

Regulatory filings also confirmed a larger 5,391mAh battery inside the Pro Max this year. Combine that bigger cell with efficiency gains from the new 2nm A20 Pro chip, and real-world battery life should take a noticeable step forward too. But there’s one caveat worth flagging. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro series for 1,000 charge cycles before dropping to 80% battery health. That matches Google’s Pixel lineup but falls short of Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series, which is rated for 1,200 cycles. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.

Speaking of Samsung, the Galaxy S26 Ultra still wins the raw speed race. It hits 51% in 15 minutes and reaches 100% in 43 minutes. But it’s also filling a smaller battery, so that context matters. Apple is closing the gap while managing a larger cell, and that’s a real engineering win.

For most iPhone users, this upgrade is probably more impactful than any camera spec bump. Charging anxiety is a very real daily frustration, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the first iPhone that genuinely addresses it. Apple took its time getting here. But the result is solid.
