Xiaomi 18 Pro now connects to Apple Watch, and that’s actually a big deal

If you’ve ever tried running a Xiaomi phone alongside an Apple Watch, you know the experience used to be somewhere between frustrating and pointless. That’s changing. At its Autumn New Product Launch Conference, Xiaomi announced that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series now supports Apple Watch connectivity, letting users take calls, receive notifications, and sync fitness and health data between the two devices.

That might sound like a small quality-of-life tweak, but think about who this affects. A lot of people who are curious about Xiaomi’s flagships already own an Apple Watch. It’s one of the stickiest products Apple makes. People don’t ditch it just because they switch phones. So by making the watch actually work with the Xiaomi 18 Pro, the company is lowering a barrier that used to stop a lot of potential buyers dead in their tracks.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. Xiaomi has been building out what it calls HyperConnect for a couple of years now, specifically targeting Apple device compatibility. The 18 Pro series already had some cross-platform tricks up its sleeve, including tap-to-share for photos, videos, and files with an iPhone, cross-device unlocking, message sharing, and cloud photo album sync. Apple Watch support is the latest addition to that growing list.

The foundation was laid back at the Xiaomi 15 series launch in 2024, when the company confirmed that HyperOS 2 fully supported the Apple ecosystem. Then HyperOS 3 and version 2.1.0 of Xiaomi Connect Service added iPhone notification syncing directly on Xiaomi phones, plus a windowed app mode for iPad through Mi Desktop. Mac integration got sharper too, with resizable multi-window support, one-click full-screen, and the ability to unlock a mirrored phone session using Mac Touch ID through Magic Launcher, no need to pick up the phone at all.

So the Apple Watch addition is part of a clear, deliberate strategy. Xiaomi isn’t trying to replace Apple’s ecosystem. It’s trying to exist comfortably alongside it. That’s a smarter play than forcing people to choose sides, and it reflects where the market actually is. Plenty of consumers mix and match devices across brands, and manufacturers that acknowledge that reality tend to win loyalty faster than ones that build walls.

Here’s what the Xiaomi 18 Pro series currently offers through HyperConnect:

  • Apple Watch connectivity with call support, notifications, and health data sync
  • Tap-to-share photos, videos, and files with iPhones
  • Cross-device unlocking between Xiaomi phones and Mac via Touch ID
  • iPhone notification syncing on Xiaomi phones
  • iPad Face ID unlocking through Magic Launcher
  • Multi-window mirroring on Mac with full-screen support
  • Cloud photo album sync across Apple and Xiaomi devices

None of this is gimmicky. Each feature solves a real problem that real people with mixed-brand setups actually run into. And as Xiaomi continues refining HyperOS, the cross-platform experience between Android and Apple hardware should keep getting tighter. Whether you’re a full Xiaomi convert or someone who just wants a great Android phone without giving up your Apple Watch, the 18 Pro series is starting to make a genuinely compelling case.
