Honor is launching three phones tomorrow, and thanks to a last-minute leak from Digital Chat Station, we now know basically everything about all of them. As reported by Gizmochina, the full specs for the Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro Max, and Magic 9 Super Edition are now out in the open. And honestly? The lineup is more interesting than the name suggests.
Let’s start with the base Magic 9. It comes with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, an AI button, a dedicated shutter button, and triple water resistance ratings covering IP68, IP69, and IP69K. That last one means it can handle high-pressure water jets, which is something most phones skip entirely. It’s 8.49mm thick and weighs 209 grams. The headline feature Honor has already confirmed is the 55MP square 1:1 selfie camera, which it’s calling Android’s first square selfie camera. That’s either a genuinely interesting design move or a marketing quirk depending on how you feel about selfies. The 16GB + 512GB version is priced at 5,999 yuan, which puts it in serious flagship territory.
The Magic 9 Pro Max steps things up considerably. It keeps the same IP ratings and adds 3D face recognition on top of the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. You also get an X-axis linear motor and dual 1216 speakers, which is a solid audio setup for a phone. It’s heavier at 233 grams and a touch thicker at 8.59mm, partly because of a larger battery and more ambitious camera hardware. For anyone who wants the full-fat version of this lineup, this is clearly the one Honor wants you to buy.
But the most surprising model is the Magic 9 Super Edition. It goes in a completely different direction. The display drops to 6.81 inches with a flat 1.5K+ panel and 120Hz refresh rate, while the chipset switches to a Snapdragon 8E5 instead of whatever is powering the other two. It also adds an active cooling fan, which is a feature you normally see in gaming phones, not flagship series like this. The fingerprint sensor here is optical rather than ultrasonic, which is a step down. Still, the Super Edition has the biggest battery of the three and is somehow the thinnest at 8.1mm. That’s an impressive balance to pull off.
Why does this matter beyond the specs? Because Honor is quietly becoming one of the more ambitious phone makers in the Android space. The square selfie camera is a small but real attempt to differentiate in a market where nearly every flagship looks and feels identical. The three-model structure, with each phone targeting a slightly different kind of buyer, shows a company that’s thinking carefully about its lineup rather than just stacking numbers. The active cooling fan in the Super Edition is also a signal that Honor is chasing performance-focused users who might otherwise go to a gaming brand.
