Two 200MP cameras on a standard model. Let that sink in. While Xiaomi was busy showing off the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China last week, the base Xiaomi 18 was nowhere to be found. But now, tipster Bald Panda has dropped a spec sheet that makes the missing phone look worth the wait.
According to Gizmochina, the Xiaomi 18 is expected to arrive with a 6.4-inch flat display running at 1.5K resolution, using Xiaomi’s M11 panel. That’s the same panel found in the Pro models, which is a genuinely good sign. Flat screens are having a moment right now, and a compact flagship with a quality display could be a real draw for people who are tired of the giant curved slabs dominating this segment.
The camera setup is where things get wild. The leak points to a triple-camera system with a 200MP 1/1.28-inch main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 200MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. That telephoto spec is the eyebrow-raiser here. Most flagships reserve the high-resolution telephoto treatment for Ultra or Pro Max models. If Xiaomi actually ships this on the standard variant, it would be a direct shot at competitors who gate-keep camera hardware behind premium tiers.
Now, a quick reality check. These are leaked specs from a tipster, not confirmed numbers from Xiaomi. Bald Panda has a reasonable track record, but leaks at this stage can and do change. Still, even as a rumor, the spec list sets some interesting expectations.
The battery is also worth talking about. A 7,200mAh cell in a phone with a 6.4-inch display is substantial. Xiaomi has been pushing hard on battery capacity across its lineup. The company just announced its first 10,000mAh phone, so a 7,200mAh unit in a more standard form factor feels consistent with where the brand is heading. Big batteries are no longer a differentiator just for budget or mid-range phones. Flagship buyers want endurance too, and Xiaomi clearly knows that.
On the software side, the Xiaomi 18 is expected to run HyperOS 4 on top of Android 17, keeping it in line with the Pro models already out there. That’s the right call. Fragmenting the software experience between standard and Pro would be a mess, and Xiaomi seems to be avoiding that trap.
As for timing, Bald Panda expects a December launch. That tracks with how Xiaomi handled the Xiaomi 17 lineup, where the Ultra came to China in December 2025. A staggered release strategy makes sense from a marketing standpoint, but it also means global buyers could be waiting well into 2027 depending on region. That’s worth keeping in mind if you’re eager to get your hands on one.
There’s also a lingering question about whether there will be a Xiaomi 18 Ultra this generation at all. Some vague reports have cast doubt on it. If that model doesn’t materialize, the standard Xiaomi 18 becomes even more interesting as the most accessible entry point into this lineup with serious camera hardware.
