Wide foldables are having a moment, and Honor doesn’t want to miss it. After months of vague hints and murky timelines, a more concrete release window has finally surfaced for what would be Honor’s first crack at the wide foldable format. According to Huawei Central, Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu is pointing to January 2027 as the target launch window for the device.
That’s still over a year away, so don’t clear your schedule just yet. But a specific month is a big step up from the nothing we had before, and it tells us Honor is likely deep into development on this thing.
So why does this matter? Because the wide foldable segment, think Samsung Galaxy Z Fold style rather than the flip phone format, is where the real flagship ambition lives right now. Samsung has owned that space for years, but competitors are circling. Huawei has been pushing wide foldables hard in China. Google threw its hat in the ring with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. OnePlus and Oppo have their own entries. Honor sitting on the sidelines was starting to look like a real gap in their lineup.
Honor has been on a serious run lately. The brand, which split from Huawei back in 2020, has rebuilt itself into a genuine global contender with strong mid-range and flagship phones. Their Magic series has earned real respect. A wide foldable would be the next logical step, a device that signals Honor is playing in the same league as Samsung and Google at the very top of the market.
There are no confirmed specs yet, which is expected this far out. But if Honor is targeting January 2027, they’ll be going up against whatever Samsung has cooking for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 generation and likely an updated Pixel Fold as well. That’s a tough crowd. Honor will need to bring something genuinely compelling, whether that’s a sharper display, better cameras, longer battery life, or a more aggressive price point.
Price is actually where Honor could make some noise. Wide foldables are still brutally expensive across the board, and if Honor can undercut the competition without cutting corners, that’s a real opportunity. It worked for them in the traditional smartphone market, and there’s no reason it can’t work here.
For now, treat this as an early signal rather than a firm announcement. Tipsters get things right, and they get things wrong. January 2027 could shift. But the fact that a specific window is circulating suggests the project is real, it’s progressing, and Honor is getting serious about making it official. Keep this one on your radar.
