Ulefone’s new app turns your rugged phone into an AI security camera

Most people buying a rugged phone want something tough enough to survive a job site or a weekend in the woods. Ulefone just figured out those same phones can pull double duty as full-on security cameras, and honestly, it’s a smart move.

The company announced Omni Sentinel, a new AI-powered app that turns compatible rugged smartphones into wildlife or security cameras. No subscription. No separate hardware. Just prop your phone up, open the app, and let it do its thing.

What the app actually does

Omni Sentinel combines detection, recording, and playback in one place. The built-in AI can identify people, vehicles, and animals, then tag each recorded event by category. So instead of scrubbing through hours of nothing, you jump straight to the moment a deer walked through your campsite or someone pulled into your driveway.

There’s also a color-coded timeline that organizes events visually, which makes filtering through footage way faster than a standard camera roll. And if something triggers detection, the app can play a preset audio warning on the spot. That’s a nice touch for anyone using it as a basic deterrent.

Recording options that actually make sense

The app supports four recording modes: manual, scheduled, AI-triggered, and background. That’s a solid range. You can set it to record only when something moves, run it on a timer overnight, or just leave it running in the background while you’re away.

Footage stays on the device or saves directly to a microSD card if your phone supports it. No cloud account to manage, no monthly fee to forget about. For anyone who’s been burned by camera subscription costs, that alone is a selling point.

Hardware support and availability

The app gets real mileage out of compatible camera hardware. Key specs include:

  • Video recording up to 4K resolution
  • Infrared night vision support
  • Adjustable detection sensitivity
  • Local and microSD storage

Right now, Omni Sentinel is available via system updates on the Ulefone Armor 30, Armor 24 Pro, and Armor 22 Pro. More models are coming. But if you already own one of those devices, you can start using it today. For a rugged phone crowd that already spends time outdoors or on worksites, this kind of built-in functionality adds genuine value without asking for anything extra.
