Google hasn’t touched the Fitbit Charge lineup since 2023, and honestly, that silence has been a little awkward. But a fresh leak suggests the wait is almost over, and the replacement looks more interesting than anyone probably expected.
According to Android Authority, the new device is called the Fitbit Edge, and exclusive leaked images from Android Headlines give us our first real look at it. Think of it as a traditional fitness band, but with a small oval display, a button on each side, and a sensor array on the back. It’s not a smartwatch, but it’s clearly not trying to be one either.
The design sits closer to the Fitbit Air than the Pixel Watch 5 in terms of sensor layout, though the report hints there could be additional health-tracking hardware under the hood. Leaked images show the Edge in black, green, and orange, which maps almost perfectly to the Obsidian, Olive, and Canyon color options on the Pixel 11 Pro. That’s not an accident. Google is clearly building out a visual identity across its hardware lineup, and the Edge fits right into it.
On the specs side, the Fitbit Edge reportedly comes with:
- Up to seven days of battery life
- Built-in GPS for outdoor tracking
- An altimeter for elevation data
- Automatic activity recognition
- Phone notification support
- App support for Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone
That app support is where things get genuinely interesting. The Fitbit Air is intentionally bare-bones, which some people love and others find frustrating. The Pixel Watch 5 goes full smartwatch with Wear OS. The Edge lands in between, giving you just enough app functionality to be useful without turning your wrist into a second phone screen. It also supports both Android and iOS, which matters if Google actually wants to sell these to more than just Pixel users.
So why does this matter beyond the device itself? Because the mid-range fitness tracker market is actually competitive right now. Garmin, Fitbit, and Samsung are all fighting for the same customer: someone who wants health data and long battery life but doesn’t want to spend $300+ on a smartwatch. The Edge, if priced right, could be a real contender in that space.
Speaking of price, Android Headlines estimates the Fitbit Edge will land between $149 and $199. That puts it above the $99 Fitbit Air and below the Pixel Watch 5, which is exactly where you’d expect it. Previous Fitbit Charge models topped out at $179, so that range feels realistic. A launch this month is reportedly on the table, which would put the Edge in stores right before the holiday shopping rush. Timing-wise, that’s a smart move.
There’s still a lot we don’t know, including exactly what sensors are packed inside and whether the software experience can match the hardware promise. But based on what’s leaked, the Fitbit Edge looks like a genuinely well-positioned product. Not a gimmick. Not a placeholder. Just a solid fitness tracker that fills a gap Google probably should have closed sooner.
