A 200-megapixel main camera on a wide foldable. That’s the spec that caught my eye, and honestly, it should catch yours too. OPPO’s next big foldable is shaping up to be one of the most interesting phones of early 2027, and it hasn’t even been officially confirmed yet.
According to Android Headlines, trusted tipster Digital Chat Station posted details about the OPPO Find N7 on Weibo, and there’s a lot to unpack. This is the phone that’s expected to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 when it launches sometime in Q1 next year. And based on what’s leaked so far, OPPO isn’t playing it safe.
First, some context. The Find N series has always been about square, compact foldables. The Find N3, N5, and N6 all followed that same form factor, and they were excellent. The Find N6 still has one of the tightest, most minimal hinges in the foldable market. But the Find N7 is reportedly a departure. OPPO is going wide, which puts it directly in Samsung’s territory for the first time.
The leaked specs are a serious statement of intent. Here’s what Digital Chat Station says is coming:
- 2nm processor (likely MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro or a Qualcomm Snapdragon, TBC)
- 7.6-inch main display with a minimal hinge design
- 5.5-inch cover display (from a separate earlier rumor)
- 200MP main camera backed by Hasselblad tuning
- 50MP ultrawide camera
- 50MP periscope telephoto camera
- 3nm multispectral sensor on the rear
- Possibly a 6,500mAh battery, based on an earlier leak
That camera setup deserves some attention. A 200MP shooter is already rare on a standard slab phone. Putting one inside a wide foldable, alongside a periscope telephoto and Hasselblad color science, is the kind of thing that makes Samsung’s camera team uncomfortable. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a strong phone, but its cameras have never been its strongest card. OPPO is clearly going after that gap.
The chip is still a question mark. OPPO’s Find X10 Pro Max runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro, so there’s a decent chance the Find N7 follows suit. But Qualcomm is also an option. Either way, a 2nm chip in a foldable is a big deal for efficiency and sustained performance. Foldables historically run warm under load, so a more efficient chip matters more here than on a regular phone.
And then there’s the battery. If the 6,500mAh rumor holds, that’s 500mAh more than the Find N6. The Find N6 already had strong battery life despite packing larger panels and a less efficient chip, so the N7 could genuinely be a full-day beast even with two displays drawing power.
The wider foldable market is heating up fast. Apple just launched the iPhone Duo, Samsung has the Z Fold 8, and now OPPO is entering the wide format. Competition at this level is good for everyone. It pushes specs, drives down prices over time, and forces every manufacturer to actually justify their design choices. OPPO has the hinge experience, the camera partnerships, and clearly the ambition. The Find N7 could be the one that finally makes Samsung sweat in a category it’s owned for years.
