iPhone 3G S processor and RAM specs confirmed

iphone_3g_s_specsApple announced the iPhone 3G S as the upgraded successor to the iPhone 3G at the WWDC 2009 keynote earlier this week. At the time, Apple wasn’t too forthcoming with the technical details behind its faster and more capable iPhone 3G S. But, today, that all changes. Thanks to a leak from T-Mobile Netherlands, we have confirmation that the iPhone 3G S rocks a 600Mhz processor paired with a solid 256MB of RAM!

Compared to the iPhone 3G’s 412Mhz processor and 128MB of RAM, the new iPhone 3G S is clearly packing more heat. While 600Mhz clock speeds and 256MB of RAM aren’t exactly mind-boggling specs in the high-end smartphone market, the new iPhone 3G S can at least hang with the most powerful smartphones on market. And, with support for the fastest HSDPA connections pushing 7.2Mbps, the new iPhone 3G S comes ready to play. Unless you’re in the US, where AT&T is still in the planning stages of upgrading their 3G network to the faster HSPA 7.2 technology.

The technical details were posted by Big Magenta’s Dutch arm today. The 600Mhz processor is still rumored to be playing alongside a new PowerVR SGX graphics core that supports OpenGL ES 2.0. Apple is apparently staying mum on the posted specs, but at least we know that the new iPhone 3G S sports a processor faster than the second-generation iPod Touch’s 532Mhz CPU.
