HiMyTribe is location-aware mobile social network for iPhone-ownin’ business folks

HiMyTribe iPhone app

HiMyTribe is a new mobile location-aware social network, launched for iPhone users, only (at least at the moment). As expected, the dedicated application takes advantage of the iPhone’s built-in GPS receiver, “creating a location-based network that lives in real time.”

This is far from a new concept, as we’ve already seen such/similar services as Loopt and GyPSii, and it’s hard to tell at this stage what new can HiMyTribe bring to the table. Here’s what they think is their killer proposition:

Sitting at the cross section of already proven models including MeetUp, LinkedIn, craigslist.org and Google Maps, HiMyTribe takes the best features of all of these services and rolls them into one easy-to-use mobile application and is the first truly real-time person to person application for the iPhone.

Moreover, the idea is to allow users to create the so called “tribes,” which are actually groups of people they want to stay connected with and can find at any moment. People could be found based on specific mutual interests and location. In that sense, HiMyTribe thinks of itself as a service for businesses, business associates, friends, and family to locate, communicate and stay connected with the people in “their tribe.”

It’s hard to tell whether this can fly. In the meantime, you can grab the application from here. (iTunes link)
