More than 1,000 developers register on Verizon Developer Community

Verizon - Apply Your Ideas contest

When a big carrier like Verizon unveils its offering for developers, we see quite a few companies and individials applying to participate. On that note, the carrier announced that more than 1,000 developers have registered to become part of the VDC, only a month after the Verizon Developer Community (VDC) Conference.

Verizon’s Apply Your Ideas contest certainly helped bring all those companies on board, but it’s also the fact that so many people rely on Verizon’s mobile services, all which could be potential application buyers.

Anyway, just wanted to point out how a carrier could embrace the app store business. Not that I’m all for Verizon — they are probably the single most closed operator in the U.S. — but I still love the idea of offering mobile applications, no matter how closed your system is, or how intentionally crippled (in terms of functionality) your phones are.

Again, additional details about Verizon’s contest is available from a dedicated website.
