Ping brings super simple and free text messaging to the iPhone

Ping iPhone app

Ping is a super simple iPhone-to-iPhone messaging app with push notifications support that makes it look like regular SMS. And that’s exactly the genuine idea behind Ping – no complicated mumbo-jumbo, only the simple text messaging between Ping users (iPhone or iPod Touch).

However, there are two problems:

  • It’s not free. Although the application costs just a buck (99 cents), it should be free to get to the tipping point.
  • It’s the iPhone thing, only. That’s at least at the moment, and I’m hoping they’ll expand to Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile and even feature phones.

SMS is included with many carrier plans, but international SMS is where Ping could really fly. If they manage to solve the two “issues” mentioned above, I could see them succeeding, big time. Then, the money could be generated from sending SMS to other, non-ping users. What do you think? (AppStore link is here)
