The mythical Motorola Sholes tablet is starting to become reality. Since before the launch of the Android-powered Motorola Droid and its slide-out QWERTY keyboard, we’ve been hearing rumors that Motorola has a slate-style (tablet) variant in the works – the Sholes tablet. We’ve been dying to see what the presumably thinner, more powerful candybar Droid/Sholes would look lie, and today we’re happy to say that we’ve been given a glimpse of the upcoming Android phone.

Thanks to Mobile01, we now know that the Motorola Sholes tablet picks up where the Droid left off. It’s got the same 3.7-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a robot-chic design aesthetic. Taking things a bit further, we learn that the Sholes sports an 8-megapixel autofocusing camera, HDMI-out port, a TI OMAP 3430 Cortex A8 processor possibly clocked at 800Mhz, multi-touch support and Motorola’s Crystal Talk DSP call enhancement technology. We’re also expecting the Sholes to launch next year with the latest Android 2.1 OS on board, possibly on T-Mobile’s US network.

For those of you not paying attention, the Motorola Sholes will apparently feature an HDMI output port capable of pushing HD video (at least 720p resolution, possibly 1080p)  to external displays. As if the generous 3.7-inch touchscreen wasn’t enough, Motorola’s Sholes will allow you to watch your videos in its full HD glory on your TV or computer monitor .

Stay tuned for details on this upcoming Android monster!
