The AppStore is like the new American Dream. It offers the promise of million-dollar successes to small developers without many resources. The reality of the AppStore, at least nowadays, is that it’s too crowded and most up-and-coming apps will never see the light of day as them compete with established developers cross-promoting their own apps. But, for iPhone game developer Tapulous, the AppStore Dream is real. A new report has the make of the popular Tap Tap Revenge iPhone game raking in a cool $1 million a month from AppStore sales.
The app has been installed more than 20 million times and was developed by a team of only 20 employees. Money funnels into Tapulous’s coffers by means of premium (for pay) games, in-app advertisements and in-app song purchases. The company’s success has even attracted $2.8 million in investment from the likes of Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff and venture capital firm Khosla Ventures. It’s clear that Tapulous is living it up in the AppStore.
With millions more iPhones sold every quarter, it should be interesting to see where Tapulous ends up in a couple years.
