I’ve been out of the loop as regards Movie-going for some time now; must be over 2 years since I last went (in case you are wondering, that’s the ‘benefit’ of having two very young children!). However I recently decided I needed to get back in the saddle, and have even booked myself a ticket to see Avatar in 3D at the IMAX in London in January (another note: the IMAX, in case you are not familiar, is a 3D-capable cinema with a vast expanse of screen – Google it to see what I mean!). On top of that, and ending this rather long introduction, I’ve been playing with the Empire Movie Guide App for the iPhone too!
The Movie Guide App has turned out to be really helpful actually – I’m convinced I suffer from mild OCD, so it’s given me the ability to look up movie information on a frightening number of movies, and the simple and uncluttered interface make finding info a real breeze 🙂
Features-wise, it’s well packed:
- A fully browsable database of over 9,000 movies reviews.
- Live search features to find films quickly and easily.
- Search capable by title, director, actor, genre or rating.
- Advanced sharing features including posting to Twitter, Facebook and email.
- Regularly updated ‘online’ features with the latest movies downloaded to the application.
- Every single review stored locally on the device for outstanding speed and performance.
- No internet connection required.
But what I like about the App, as I said, is that it’s ‘tidy’, and is fast – that’s really all you need when you want to access to things like movie reviews. And speaking of the reviews, they are very well-written and give a view on the film that I’d suspect you can trust. To test that, I looked up some movies I loved and intensely disliked, and it seems that I agree on many counts with the reviewers at Emprire – good times!

Of course, the acid test will be as I get back in to my movie-going, and checking out more info on upcoming attractions, rather than cross-referencing things I’ve already seen (must get that OCD treated!). At any rate, I’d recommend the Empire Movie Guide App to anyone that is interested in, or that loves, their Movies – it has a TON of info that’s really easy to use – and that, is the trick of providing a good App in my view – good content, great accessibility!
Rating: rather good indeed – I like!
You can find the Empire Movie Guide App on the App Store for £2.99 (in the UK).
