Following directly on from the last piece I wrote on the iPhone launching on Vodafone UK on Jan 14, it would also appear that HTC are dropping the HD2 from their range before that date!
According to our buddies over at Electricpig, Vodafone have confirmed they will not continue to stock the device:
We’ve had official word from Vodafone on the fate of the HTC HD2 this afternoon, with a spokesman stating “We are not re-stocking the HTC HD2 for general consumer sales once current stock runs out. We have had a massive amount of interest in it, and our initial stock sold out quickly. Subsequent deliveries have been used to fulfil backorders, but we are not looking to re-stock the device.”
Explaining the move, our man at Vodafone said the HTC HD2 didn’t have a place in its line-up, purely because of other devices edging it out in the coming months. And, yes, the iPhone on Vodafone was mentioned.
So there you go – the mighty HTC, who have been turning out some really great devices in the last 12 months, is shunted out of the way by the mighty Apple Juggernaut – and some other as yet unnamed device that will be appearing in the Vodafone portfolio in the coming months. I wonder if one of those could be another iPhone, maybe around June time? Who knows… 🙂
