Patent firm Prism Technologies is pressing on Research in Motion for violating some of their intellectual property in BlackBerry. The International Trade Commission is now stepping into investigate and see if there are any merits to the complaint. The technology in question has to do with an authentication system, which is an important part of a security-conscious setup like BlackBerry’s, but it’s hard to say how big of a part this patent plays at RIM. These kind of scuffles happen all the time with little to no repercussions for the end-user, so no need to worry – RIM’s tussles with Visto and NTP are about as bad as they get.
