An exceedingly popular location-based app for BlackBerry called Poynt is on the way to iPhone, allowing folks to execute localized searches for people, businesses, movies, and restaurants. The latest BlackBerry version still has a bit of a leg-up with gas prices, but the real cool gimmick with Poynt on iPhone is how they use the accelerometer. When turning the phone sideways, it automatically launches into Maps, complete with a pin for the entry you were looking at. Also, by putting the phone to your face, it launches right into a call if the result had a number available. Cool stuff all around! Expect to see it in the iTunes App Store before the end of the month for free.
