Video: Nokia N900 Tip: Get access to contacts by typing their name at the home screen

My mobile phone of choice, the Nokia E71, has a handy feature where you can start typing someone’s name when at the home screen and it will give you the option to select a contact, and then multiple ways of contacting them. This feature is also built into Windows Mobile devices, and on the iPhone if you simply swipe to the left. The Nokia N900 has this feature as well, and it works exactly like the E71, but the usefulness varies since the use case would be:

  • Remove device from pocket.
  • Open keyboard.
  • Type name.
  • Select name.
  • Select call.
  • Close keyboard.

It’s the whole having to manually open the keyboard bit that bothers me a little bit, but either way, shortcuts are always helpful so have a look below to learn about this one:
