Vancouver 2010 Olympic App Roundup: Let the Games Begin!

I’m officially ‘tapping out’ of Olympic app news for now. The opening ceremonies are tonight, and frankly, I’ve got everything I need loaded up on my iPhone AND my BlackBerry. I’ll have those by my side, plus I’ll probably have a cold beer with me too as I watch the opening ceremonies *cheers*. I hope you can join me in watching the events as they unfold… I wonder who’s going to light the flame? Wayne Gretzky perhaps?

In case you missed it, here’s a brief recap of the Olympic apps I’ve covered over the last few days. Feel free to check ’em out and give them a spin… Most are free downloads.

CTV Olympics – Released by Canadian Broadcaster CTV, this app is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to stay on top of the latest. News filters in from CTV, TSN, Sportsnet and RDS to name a few. It’s free to download, and worth a look for sure.

The Bell Cowbell – Another cowbell app here, although this one is much simpler. Pop it open and shake/tap/click your device to trigger the bell, and cheer your athletes on. This one is compatible with the iPhone line, many BlackBerry devices and the Samsung Omnia 2.

Cowbell 2010 – The most intense ‘cowbell’ app I’ve found (and yes, there are a few!) for iPhone… Cowbell 2010 not only lets you select a custom cowbell based on country, but you can also use it to check out the Olympic schedule, view medal tallies and more.

Official Mobile Spectator Guide – This one is an absolute MUST HAVE for any iPhone owner. Pop open the App Store and download it now! The official 2010 guide from VANOC and Bell delivers up-to-the-second news and results. Plus, it uses GPS to pinpoint your exact location to help you locate events going on around you. That’s awesome if you happen to be in Vancouver for the games!

Vancouver 2010 Mobile Game – For BlackBerry, this new offering from Bplay brings the excitement of 5 winter sports to your Berry. Compete against up to 5 friends at a time in a fun multiplayer mode, or challenge yourself on the slopes.

NBC Olympics on AT&T – For iPhone, the NBC Olympics app delivers news, medal counts, videos, and all sorts of Olympic content. With a particular focus on American athletes, this one is an ideal download for anyone cheering on the U.S. team.

Happy Friday everyone… and let the games begin!
