When it comes to making low end handsets, Nokia usually comes to mind. They make a lot of money off the low end market, even when those devices cost only 20 EUR ($27.45). Now they have some competition.

Vodafone today announced the 150 and the 250, both cheaper than Nokia’s cheapest. The 150 will cost $15, the 250 will cost $20. We’re talking ultra low end devices here. The devices will be available to India, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa and Tanzania first, and then come to other markets at a later time.

Vodafone 150 device specification: Black candy bar device with 5-way navigation key, 1 inch monochrome graphic display 96×64 pixels, voice and SMS, GSM 900/1800, memory for up to 100 entries in the phonebook plus SMS storage, flashlight, 500 mAh battery with standby up to 400 hours, talk time up to 5 hours and a mini USB connector.

Vodafone 250 device specification: Black or grey-blue candy bar device with 5-way navigation key, 1.45 inch CSTN display, 128×128 pixels, FM radio and stereo headset support, GSM 900/1800, memory for up to 100 entries in the phonebook plus SMS storage, flashlight, 500 mAh battery with standby up to 400 hours, talk time up to 5 hours and a mini USB connector.
