The Qtel Group announced plans to make mobile money services available for customers across its international operations, covering 17 countries and more than 53 million customers. The company wants a piece of the lucrative remittances from the Gulf region to Asian countries, but also to serve other mobile phone users in the region. In that sense, Qtel has developed several facilities — including secure international mobile remittance, mobile payment and mobile recharging. And the idea is to serve both existing customers, as well as people within the scope of the remittance corridor coverage.

For the record, Qtel operates in key Gulf markets, North Africa, Southeast Asia and the Asian subcontinent.
