HTC’s new Android phones were the talk of the town at Mobile World Congress, and we’re happy to hear new rumors that hint at both AT&T and Sprint picking up the HTC Desire and HTC Legend, respectively. The rumors aren’t even remotely confirmed at this point, but supposed HTC insiders are hinting at the possibility that AT&T will bring the Nexus One-ish HTC Desire to its 3G network in the US. Sprint is said to be picking up the HTC Legend and its aluminum unibody as the HTC Hero2 to succeed the popular Sprint HTC Hero.
The HTC Desire on AT&T will finally give customers on the No. 2 US network an alternative to the Nexus One. Currently, the Google Nexus One is only available on T-Mobile’s 3G network, which, while fast as hell, isn’t exactly the best in terms of coverage or indoor performance. The Nexus One will soon be available on Verizon Wireless, but it will come with the compromise of not having simultaneous data+voice service. If AT&T does indeed get the HTC Desire, it’ll come with HTC’s updated Sense UI, which we demo from Mobile World Congress 2010 here.
Again, this rumor is nothing more than pure speculation at this point, but we’re crossing our fingers for at least 50% of it to be true. Both the Desire and Legend are incredible Android phones, and we’d be happy to see either coming to the States!
We had a chance to play with the HTC Desire and HTC Legend at Mobile World Congress – find our coverage here and here.
