A small pat on the back has to go to Palm and all of the webOS developers working hard on their craft. US Palm Pre and Pre Plus users now have access to over 2000 apps. The number is slightly less when it comes to sharing app love with the Pixi, but still, at least Palm (and the developer community) are making forward progress.
If you were wondering how these numbers actually come together, my bud Dieter at PreCentral has done a nifty little job of sleuthing and breaking it down for us:
Here’s how it breaks down: as of this writing, the official on-device App Catalog has 1623 apps (counting all apps in all regions), Web Distribution has 145 apps, Beta distribution has 61 apps, and the homebrew gallery has 443. Using my trusty calculator, I come to 2,272 available applications after adding those four numbers together.
Roger that Dieter, good work.
In addition to this, on the horizon is paid app availability for international users. According to various reports I think we can expect paid apps to go international via the App Catalog by the end of next month. I’ll keep an eye open for this.
