Zoompass‘ mobile payment application is on the way to TELUS BlackBerrys across Canada, allowing for quick transfer of funds either from your bank, credit card, or dedicated Zoompass account. The service was initially introduced last summer across all three of Canada’s big carriers, allowing you to send funds via mobile to anyone, regardless of carrier. You can even attach small notes with transactions so both parties can remember what the payment was for.
Flashier stuff like NFC, or card-swiping peripherals are neat, but all of those extras has a higher barrier of entry, both for shoppers and retailers. Zoompass uses text messages to send alerts, so even the most basic cell phones can take advantage of the system with a smartphone app. Plus, Zoompass is based on a joint effort by all of Canada’s carriers, making ubiquity and interoperability non-issues.
An Android and iPhone app also available, if you’re in Canada and want to give Zoompass a shot.
