Intel and Orange are teaming up to deliver Orange multimedia services across a number of devices based on the Intel Atom Processor and MeeGo software platform.
Among the operator services (Orange Signature Services) that will be ported to the new platform are Orange TV and Orange Maps, even though we’re still waiting to see the first MeeGo-powered device announced.
It’s a good thing to see a major carrier such as Orange jumping on board to support the new platform. I’ve no doubts the first MeeGo devices will appear later this year, including both netbooks and smartphones.
And if you don’t remember, MeeGo was unveiled during this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, when Intel and Nokia agreed to merge their Linux platforms (Moblin and Maemo, respectively) into a single platform, which will be used across devices and which will work both with ARM and x86-based processors (such as the “netbook standard” Intel Atom).
