Provider of automated cloud-based speech recognition services Yap announced that is has been selected by Microsoft to provide speech-to-text capabilities in its Talk to Text mobile application for Sprint.
Initially, the new application is available for all Blackberry devices, allowing users to speak their text messages and emails.
The Yap speech cloud provides fully automated, high accuracy speech recognition via a simple web services interface. Using this interface, Microsoft was able to quickly integrate Yap’s speech recognition into its Talk to Text application with just a few lines of code.
According to Yap, users will benefit from reduced number of keystrokes, though I’m not sure everyone cares about it, BlackBerry users especially. If you already own a full QWERTY keyboard-equipped device which is known as the industry’s best for managing emails on-the-go, I doubt you have any issues with typing longer sentences. Then again, I may be wrong, and at the end – it’s good to have a choice, so it’s up to users to decide whether they want to type or speak their messages…
