The other night I happened to be watching TV (time-shifted, of course), when I caught an Advert for the iPlayer. Nothing special you might think, but in this case it was an Ad I’ve not seen before, and was focusing on Mobile devices for service delivery. Cool! The pic above is an on-the-fly snap I took of my TV display (which explains the poor quality of the pic) at the end of the advert, and as you can see, the push is on Mobile devices.
I should probably rewind at this point and just explain what iPlayer is – it’s a Catch-up TV service that can be found on the Web, and is provided free to people in the UK, that want to (surprisingly) catch up on programming from the BBC. It’s also be extremely successful, having a halo effect on video data traffic in the UK, and causing some headaches for ISPs into the bargain, I shouldn’t wonder!
Anyhow, since the BBC is funded by the taxpayer, its within their remit to get iPlayer on to as many platforms as possible. Mobile was actually supported relatively early in it’s development, but, with the flock of recent big-screens additions to the world of Mobile gadgetry, watching iPlayer on your Mobile device is probably going to be the best experience it has ever been.
Unfortunately iPlayer is only available to those in the UK, but at least some of us Mobile fiends can have the chance to watch popular BBC output on our Mobile devices now!
Bonus question, following my post: what device is featured in the Ad (see pic above) – 10 points for the answer 🙂
