HD2 gets early Windows Phone 7 port

The HD2 has already garnered quite the following. Sales have been going exceptionally well, but some owners of the gorgeous new device may be feeling a little left out since their HD2 won’t be making it to Windows Phone 7 status. Officially, at least. Good news for those users, an unofficial ROM has been previewed of Windows Phone 7 running on a HD2!

Over the weekend,  a picture leaked on to the net showing what looked like Windows Phone 7 on the HD2. While promising, I remained skeptical, until later the next day, when two videos were released. Now I’m a believer! (sorry for bad pun). The best thing about the port is that almost everything works! Yep, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth all work on this bad boy, but that’s not to say everything is going too smoothly. At the moment, there seems to be some issues with the graphics not being optimized for the HD2, which causes some considerable lag, but nothing too horrible. When the ROM is released in beta, which will hopefully be soon, the lag issue will/should have been addressed.

The guys over at HTCPedia made this port happen, so if you have an HD2, and you want in on the Windows Phone 7 action, stop by their site and give them some support. Possibly by donating, and not  joining the forum just to ask “When can I haz this ROM?” It’s nice to see that the HD2 owners are not going over-looked, by the community, at least.  I’m not sure if this voids the warranty on the device, but I would imagine so. It’s also cool to think that a functioning Windows Phone 7 build will be out before the official phones come out. So, anyone out here going to be flashing the beta build once its out, even if it does void your warranty?
