There’s a new note taking tool out there and an accompanying iPhone app – Springpad. Like Evernote (my personal favorite), it allows users to save and access things they want to remember. However, it also adds something new to the table – it can read a portion of your content and put it in context. Here are some examples that should give you an idea what it does:
- If you clip an article about a restaurant, Springpad will add links to Yelp reviews, Open Table reservations, and the restaurant’s address and contact information.
- For a movie, it will add local show times, as well as a link to the trailer, “add to Netflix queue,” and order DVD on Amazon.
- And it will do similar things with recipes and travel information.
In addition, Springpad’s iPhone app is location-aware (like Evernote), taking advantage of the built-in GPS receiver and helping your remember things at the place they happen/are.
In a nutshell, if you like the idea of putting your notes into a wider context, you should give Springpad a try. Heck, you should try it nonetheless, especially if you don’t like Evernote’s “thumbnail approach” to notes. Personally, I don’t need contextualized notes – I use bookmarking services for that, but hey, that’s just me. 😉
