Twitter for BlackBerry Leaked with Updates, Including Lists

BlackBerry for Twitter has been running its closed beta for awhile now, but version 1.0.0.37 has been leaked, and is available for download for whoever wants to give it a spin. Aside from the native messages folder integration and push-grade direct messages, there are a few new features – most noticeable is the inclusion of a Lists tab, which enables you to view and edit your lists of followers. Lists are a lifesaver, especially for mobile when you it can be a real pain combing through your entire feed of incoming tweets for something specific. Viewing individual users within the app will allow you to view their lists as well as subscribe to or recommend them to others.

Aside from that, there are a few nice tweaks, like Messages list notifications of @ replies (not just Direct Messages), the ability to change your font, viewing full-size Twitter avatars, profile editing, the ability to delete your own tweets, and some nice aesthetic upgrades. Apparently this version is also caching data locally, so users won’t have to wait for profile pictures to load up, and you can get rid of the “What’s happening?” box on the home page, if you’re looking for more screen real estate. You still can’t edit before retweeting, which is called quoting in other apps, and there’s also no native address book integration, as previously speculated, which really disappointed me. I’d love to be able to flip through my contacts and be able to see the latest tweet of my friends – it could help start a phone conversation, or kick off an e-mail. If RIM could squeeze in multiple account support before the public launch, I think they’ll be good to butt heads with incumbent third party clients like UberTwitter, SocialScope, and Seesmic.

There are likely plenty more surprises in 1.0.0.37, so go ahead and hit up bbtweeps.com/files/php/twitter.php on your BlackBerry to get the latest Twitter app.
