By now it’s clear that one of the iPad’s most interesting uses is going to be watching video of all kinds. Be they TV shows downloaded through iTunes or movies sideloaded onto the onboard memory, Apple is pushing the iPad tablet as a media consumption device rivaled only by super high-end smartphones like the HTC HD2. So, imagine our excitement upon hearing that Ustream will be bringing its nifty video-streaming service to the iPad. That’s right, soon you’ll be able to watch your friends’ (or random strangers’) streaming video feeds right on your iPad.
Video services are going to be big on the iPad. We already have major networks and movie download services confirmed with iPad apps, and Ustream just adds a little icing to the cake.
Like the smartphone versions before it, the iPad Ustream viewer app will allow iPad users to plug into video streams from around the world. The service works by using a webcam or a mobile phone’s (like the iPhone) video camera to capture video and broadcast it in near real-time to the web. Unfortunately, the app will only view streams. Due to a lack of a camera, the iPad won’t be capable of pushing live video to the web.
Still, it’s good to see the vast array of video apps that will be available for the iPad when it launches in a little over half a day from now. Don’t forget to check back on the front page to catch IntoMobile’s live-streaming webcast of the pre-launch festivities from the Palo Alto Apple Store!
