It’s not like every day we have some Ovi Store success story to share. Unfortunately for Nokia, they haven’t been able to repeat Apple’s AppStore success. If you look at Shazam’s example, it has hit 1 million Ovi Store downloads after 7 month, compared to 1.5 million in 2 months on AppStore. To be fair, while Apple keeps ruling the Western hemisphere, Nokia dominates the emerging markets of Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
Anyway, I wanted to showcase one of not-that-many Ovi Store success stories. The company is Digital Chocolate and they announced that their game downloads have crossed the 4 million mark.
To celebrate reaching such a milestone, the mobile gaming publisher is giving away 5 of its top selling titles during the month of April – Tower Bloxx: New York, Rollercoaster Rush: 99 Tracks, Crazy Penguin Party, Nightclub Fever, and Dictator Defense. Yap, you can already search for them in the Ovi Store.
In addition, Digital Chocolate also said it will bring Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster Rush to the Maemo-based Nokia N900. So far we haven’t seen a major publisher supporting Nokia’s Linux platform, but we’re definitely hoping to see how it performs in the mobile gaming world. The proper hardware is definitely there, so it shouldn’t be a problem for the N900 (and its potential successors) to smoothly run 3D games…
