First we heard a rumor that Nokia is working on its own tablet and now apparently we have one of the major gaming publishers saying they’re already preparing a game for the forthcoming device. It gets kinda crazy, though I doubt the Finnish giant wants to miss the new tablet wave.
The gaming publisher is Germany’s Fishlabs and they said: “We are working on a triple-A title closely together with Nokia featuring OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics for a large screen.”
Large screen could be anything from 4 to 10 inches, but something tells me that in addition to the new sexy phone (which could come with a large screen), those Helsinki guys and gals also work on something bigger, better, which will hopefully run MeeGo rather than Symbian.
However, it’s important to add that having a single large publisher on board is not enough. Heck, even if you have a number of publishers supporting the platform, that doesn’t guarantees success. Where’s N-Gage today? And it was supported by virtually every major mobile gaming company. The idea is to create a sexy platform and accompanying device(s) that excite both major companies and independent (small) developers. Symbian is not the answer, that’s for sure. The question is – can MeeGo do that? I certainly hope so…
