Mobile entertainment firm Mobilefilmworks is bringing not-that-known Indie movies to a mobile phone near you. The service works in your browser, supporting about 30 different handsets (at least they say so) — including all of the popular smartphones such as the iPhone, Moto Droid/Milestone, BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Mobile devices; as well as some high-end feature phones.
The company has secured deals with some (they don’t say which) film festivals and film makers during the last year, and now they’re ready to stream their stuff to your mobile phone.
Users access the service by pointing their mobile browser to m.mobilefilmworks.com and then pay for renting or streaming of movies. No PC client is required – everything happens in your browser.
Finally, in addition to existing contracts with the (not) mentioned film festivals and independent film makers, Mobilefilmworks plans to announce additional content partners later in the year.
Don’t know about you, but I’m all for supporting the small guy, hence I’ll be one of those using the service. Besides, one gets tired of Hollywood…
