Back at WES ’09, HP and RIM announced a partnership that led to a location-based enterprise-grade social network, and had announced CloudPrint and Operations Manager mobile apps that would allow a variety of printer activities to be done via BlackBerry. That app is now (finally) ready, and looks pretty easy to use. Just crack open an e-mail attachment, hit the Menu key, select print, then chose your printer. If there are a bunch available on your network, you can do a search to find the one closest to you. In addition to local corporate printers, you’ll also be able to send jobs out to FedEx Office (Kinko’s) and Hilton printing locations.
As much as I like to harp on how print is dead, I can only imagine how helpful this sort of thing is within a corporate environment. I’m under the impression Cortado has been doing stuff like this for some time now already, but HP has the benefit of extensive desktop and printer experience to back them up.
