iFixit: Welcome to Repair 2.0

Every once in a while, something comes along that makes you stop and think – iFixit has been doing that for a while for me, because they’ve done of the greatest tear-downs of Apple devices (particularly) to-date. However, little we were to know that there was a more noble cause being driven in the background, by its founder Kyle Wiens:

Fixit is launching a global repair community today. Our goal: create a repair manual for everything, and empower anyone to fix anything. Here are the highlights:

* We’re opening up our guides to the world. Think Wikipedia, but for repair.
* Our platform is built from the ground up to make writing and using repair documentation easy.
* Both text and images are easily editable, and come with revision history.
* Reputation and badges reward participation, quality, and experience.
* You can get involved right now! http://www.ifixit.com

Of course, there’s a lot more text that I could share with you on the announcement – but if a picture is worth a thousand word, then a video must surely be a million – and iFixit have taken the time to create one, which shows the real impact of making a change, by repairing our gadgets rather than tossing them the second they develop a fault:

All I can say is well done guys, that’s a worthy cause you are following there. Check out the iFixit site here, and start contributing to the repair of Mobile devices, if you know how!
