AT&T outlines iPad 3G data service costs and other details

By now, it’s fairly well known that Apple and AT&T are again in cahoots to provide 3G data service to iPad customers. AT&T will be providing Apple iPad 3G + WiFi units with 3G data service on its “Nation’s Fastest 3G Network” starting April 30th, when Apple drops the 3G iPad on the the US. iPad 3G data service will be contract-free and offered with $14.99 and $29.99 options for 250MB/month or unlimited data, respectively. But, there were some minor details that AT&T left in the dark – until today. AT&T has today posted m0re details about data service for Apple’s new tablet.

The PDF fact sheet sheds light on the nitty gritty details of using AT&T’s 3G network with the iPad:

  • One month of data service constitutes 30 days.
  • Billing cycle begins on iPad purchase date.
  • Charges go to your credit card.
  • Credit card is automatically renewed unless you cancel the contract-free service.
  • You can change your data plan at any time (presumably between the 250MB and unlimited data plans)
  • Customers get free AT&T WiFi HotSpot access

AT&T also mentions that you can check your iPad data usage on the iPad. Data usage doesn’t really matter if you’re using the $30/month unlimited data plan, but is really important for those with only 250MB of data available every month. The iPad will even alert you when you get low on your data quota. And, when you hit the cap on your 250MB plan, you can add another 250MB plan from the iPad itself – although, if this is a recurring issue, you might want to opt for the $30 plan.
