BlackBerry Internet Service Begins Two-Way GMail Sync Rollout

After a lot of confusion, RIM has begun to roll out two-way Google Mail sync between BlackBerry and web service, meaning if you read it on your device, it’ll show up as read in your desktop inbox and vice versa. Sent messages will be synced up automatically, too. Leaked docs suggested a BIS 3.1 launch in June, but it could easily take rest of the May for all carriers to get the service, as the rollout needs to be gradual to avoid exploding servers. Previously, GMail only allowed read status to be pushed down to the device, which was nice, but didn’t offer an experience on par with BES.

I had enjoyed this feature during my short time with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, and it was actually a little embarrassing that Android managed my GMail better than BlackBerry, but hopefully this update will even out the playing field. Keep an eye on your carrier’s respective BIS page for two-way GMail sync, and if you want to prepare, make sure you’ve got the Google Sync app to keep your contacts and calendar linked up (although the contacts might just be bundled BIS 3.1) and you have the Enhanced GMail Plug-In to use stars, labels, and archiving.

Quick show of hands, who has two-way GMail sync already available to them?
