BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100 and 9105) Passes FCC

Those of you who have been waiting ever-so-patiently for the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G since the announcement will be happy to hear both the 9100 and 9105 have made it through the FCC rigamarole. Now it’s clear sailing to a public release, last speculated in Canada to be sometime this week, but I have a feeling we’ll be waiting until the end of the month or so before it’s in stores.

If the launch can still happen within a month of the announcement, it would represent pretty good turnaround time on RIM’s part. The BlackBerry 9100 basically crams everything under the Bold 9700’s hood into a smaller package: HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, HSPA 3G, GPS, 256 MB of memory, and ups Wi-Fi to 802.11 n. The 9105 only differs in that instead of the 9100’s SureType keypad (the usual two letters per key), it has a more traditional alphanumeric keypad. We’re looking in AT&T’s direction for a release sometime soon – we’ll keep you posted.
