Nokia promotes Ovi Store in UK newspapers on the election day

Nokia is taking advantage of all the buzz surrounding the UK’s general election to spread the word about its Ovi Store. In a move one could call “Look we have apps, too!”, the Finnish giant placed a number of full page ads in various UK newspapers highlighting news apps such as AP News, Evening Standard and Reuters.

Also included in the ad (though in a subtle manner) are Ovi Maps and recently launched Own Voice.

Unlike Apple, Nokia hasn’t promoted its app store heavily in offline media. Is this a new strategy or what? To be fair, the Ovi Store sucked big time at launch. The most notable example of poor user experience was the inability to download the same paid app twice. Now with Ovi Store approaching its first anniversary, it’s much more stable, has more apps in the catalog and many of the known bugs have been fixed — all facts that seem to made Nokia more confident to launch a print campaign…

Anyway, in case you wonder, Nokia’s earlier services campaign focused on Ovi Maps with free navigation.
