Gold and diamond-clad iPad on sale for $189,000

Following on the myriad gold, platinum, and diamond-clad iPhones that have managed to disgust anyone with even a modicum of good taste and common sense, there’s a new gold-and-diamond iPad on the market. Supposed “designer” Stuart Hughes is now selling a 64GB iPad 3G + WiFi that has had its entire aluminum unibody casing replaced with 22ct gold. And, in order to satisfy the obscene tastes of the too-rich-for-their-own-good set, Hughes has encrusted the Apple logo on the iPad’s backside with 53 flawless diamonds.

The cost for all this tackiness? £129,995, or somewhere in the neighborhood of $189,000. Sure, you could help feed a significant percentage of a starving African country with that money, but hey, you definitely need a gold and diamond-encrusted iPad to match your blinged our sunglasses and Prada shoes. You’ll also need to make sure your butler is strong enough to carry your gold iPad around, seeing as how all that gold transforms the lightweight iPad into a 4.4-pound monster (relatively speaking, of course).

It’s not clear how the gold casing will affect 3G radio reception on this thing, especially without the black plastic insert along the top edge of the casing. But, if you can afford this thing, chances are you have people to check your email for you.

And you thought the regular top-of-the-line iPad 3G + WiFi model was expensive…
